FLIR / Extech i5 Infrared Camera Review
The FLIR / Extech i5 is an infrared camera geared for home inspectors and electricians in the home building and building sciences industries.
I first came across the FLIR / Extech i5 when I was researching how to convert my digital camera into an infrared camera a couple of weeks ago and discovered 2 entry level infrared cameras; the Extech i5 and the new FLIR i7 infrared camera. Both products are perfect for my needs, but like I mentioned earlier, they are marketed for first time infrared camera users in the home inspection and electrical industry.
Extech i5 Features:
- Detect hidden problems, make quick damage assessments
- Check for overheating of electrical panels and transformers
- Avoid electrical failures
- Identify faults in heating and cooling systems
- Find problems with motors, fans and bearings
- Generate reports, analyze and document your findings with the easy-to-use software
Extech i5 Specifications:
- FLIR 80×80 infrared sensor with a high 2°C accuracy and 0.1°C thermal sensitivity
- 2.8″ high resolution color LCD display
- Double molded rugged design with easy grip handle construction that meets IP43 dust/splashproof standards
- Rechargeable >4 hour Li-ion battery and AC charger
One of the best things about the Extech i5 is the price point; at only $1995 US, there’s no reason why a home inspector or electrician should do without one of these in their tool box.
