TED 5000 Review. TED 5000 The Energy Detective is a consumer-based electricity monitoring device that takes home energy monitoring and management to a new level. I’m really excited about this product because Google, yes Google, has partnered up with the makers of the TED 5000 (Energy Inc.) and created a free software platform called, Google PowerMeter. The TED 5000 are actually Google’s first partner for their Google Power Meter software and when used together, teaches users how to save money by being smarter about their energy consumption. TED 5000′s allow you to measure power of the whole house.

If you live in some parts of US or Canada, energy costs differ depending on the time of the day. For example, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. If you use electricity after 10pm, energy costs 1/3 of what it does during the day up until 6am the next day. The TED 5000 is a device that will show you how you your energy usage patterns throughout the day and the software gives you a visual report. Then with this information, you can take action to reduce your energy consumption and costs. Its a really great tool.

Sure, but the instructions that come with the TED are just plain poor. IT still feels like a Do It Yourself product. I got it all working – after researching several blogs for updates and tips. They need to do better with this product. But, pretty good start, nonetheless.

just got the ted 5000 yesterday… it works about 30% of the time..the 2 units are less than 15′ away and it keeps sending fault data..I can turn my AC and WH and all the lights off and it still shows everything being on for about 30 min, and then it goes blank to 0.00 and then will pick up stuff here and there…WASTE OF MONEY

Hi Greg, thanks for your comment. I would give Energy Inc. a call: 843.766.9800 (direct) or 800.959.5833 (toll-free). They are really helpful and Im sure they can answer your questions. If installed properly and not faulty (RMA if faulty), the TED 5000 should work fine. thanks.
