Life After GeoCities – WebRing and DreamHost Offer Free Web Hosting

There’s been a surge in free web hosting offers and web hosting specials from many companies. I actually found out about the GeoCities closure when I received this email from my old WebRing account offering 50MB to free members the day after Yahoo made the announcement:

The best web hosting offer I’ve seen so far is one I just read this post on Technotip – Free Hosting and Free Domain from Dreamhost. Basically if you’re one of the first 1,000 GeoCities users to sign up, you’ll be able to get 2 years of unlimited web hosting plus a free domain name. The only condition is that you must have an existing GeoCities URL. Unfortunately for me, I don’t have my old GeoCities page up anymore and have since then changed my username and by now there are probably countless blogs that have already posted this promo.
