WordPress: Remove Category Base from URL

For over 5 years, I had successfully removed the category base from my URLs using the Custom Query String plugin. The latest version is currently 2.6 and my pagination with WP-PageNavi stopped working when I upgraded to WordPress 3.8 and it hasn’t worked with other WordPress updates since then.

3 months later, I finally made the time to find a solution.

Easiest Solution… If it Worked :P

One solution suggested putting a “.” in the category base field in the permalinks settings; that didn’t work. I’d link to it, but I don’t want to give that link any relevancy even if its a “nofollow” link.

WP No Category Base

This plugin removes the mandatory ‘Category Base’ from your category permalinks (e.g. `/category/my-category/` to `/my-category/`).

You can download WP No Category Base here.
