Why You Should Spend More Time Planning Your Website Design

Many managers I’ve worked with just want to slap some things together after they have a brilliant idea. They don’t care what’s involved or how you get the job done, they have an idea, not a vision and most of the time it just results in a slap chop design that you don’t know will work or not because it wasn’t based on anything except a partial representation of your gut feeling.

When you’re designing a website, you should always know what your goals and KPI’s are. Without them, how will you know which direction you should lay out the page? Here’s an example, Take a keyturn e-commerce solution out of the box, change the colours and make some new stuff to fill in the space. And, who said anything about making a homepage that can best make visitors into sold converted customers? You bet managers don’t think of that. Why? Because they think that conversions will just happen if you build it, completely disregarding the fact that things need to be planned properly.

As a designer, its up to you to to always have these things in the back of your mind, or in some cases if you’re constantly designing, always have that in the forefront – keep learning and plan your designs better.
